Dear Mr. Cochran:

It has come to my attention that you have conditioned the passage of a Student Government allocation proposal on the elimination of several amendments that I recently passed unanimously through the Senate.

I would have appreciated the professional courtesy of being informed of the problems that my amendments seem to have created.

Had I have been informed, I could explain cogently and concisely why student interest in eliminating the confidence vote and allowing SGA to choose a faculty advisor trumps any interest that you may have.  Both of these measures will increase the power of SGA, and allow SGA to more effectively serve students.  Service to the student, of course, is “our primary reason for being.”

In the future, I would appreciate being extended the professional courtesy of being contacted if there is an issue with any of the bills that I bring to the floor.

Thank you,

Dear Mr. Mullendore:

I have carbon copied the attached letter to you regarding your staff person, Tom Cochran.

Rather than approach me directly about two amendments I wrote recently (one allows SGA to choose their own faculty advisor, the other eliminates the confidence vote), Tom has decided to impede a separate allocation proposal by Senator Michael Runnels.  Tom’s actions are further proving my point about your staff: Your staff ostracizes student leaders when they disagree with the administration.

I invite you now to take this student complaint seriously, and deal with the problem.

Sincerely,

Chris Jay Hoofnagle
