Dear Senator Gooding,

It is my pleasure to offer you a seat on the Freshman Board Selection Committee.  This year promises the strongest Freshman Board ever—already over 300 applications have been picked up by new students.

To sit on the selection committee, you will need to review the candidate applications, and attend two days of interviews and deliberations.

The applications will be available for your review on August 30th at 4 PM in Tate Center 151.  Sometime before September 2nd at 4, you will need to review each application and choose the strongest candidates for interviewing.  We will have a selection protocol on August 30th.

Interviews will take place on Sunday, September 5th and Monday, September 6th (Labor Day weekend).  This summer, when we were planning the selection process, we could not get around scheduling interviews during Labor Day weekend.  We think, however, that scheduling interviews during this weekend is consistent with SGA’s goal of encouraging students to stay in Athens during the weekends.

Please accept my apologies for the form I have attached.  Last year, a number of selection members used inappropriate criteria and voted on their friends during the process.

We must avoid even the appearance of impropriety in selecting these First-year class leaders.  Accordingly, I must emphasize the importance of impartial decision making in the clearest terms.

If you wish to sit on the committee, please complete and return the attached form.  I look forward to working with you on this committee.

Regards,

Chris Hoofnagle
