Dear Dr. Barber:
I have grown increasingly concerned with the number of University vehicles that are driven and parked on North Campus. I understand that this matter is within your oversight as Vice-President for Business and Finance.
At any time during the day, several University vehicles are parked underneath the law school in our patio area. University Police claims that parking there is a fire hazard, and they will ticket students who park there. However, University vehicles park under the school anyway.
Also, I have noticed that employees have been driving vehicles more frequently on the actual campus. In many instances, this driving does not seem necessary—the employees could have parked in a state vehicle space and walked.
In addition, during periods where school is out of session, I have seen University vehicles drive at high speed on the quad sidewalks in front of Peabody and Lustrat House. Although students aren’t here during these breaks, this driving is still dangerous.
I ask you to consider raising awareness about the dangers and harm that driving on campus causes. Driving on campus is not safe, often unnecessary, sometimes blocks the sidewalks, and it kills the grass.
I would appreciate any attention you could give to this matter.
